Debra NewbyDebra A. Newby has represented hundreds of severely and fatally injured clients in Northern California. She has actively practiced law for over 30 years and is a member of the California, Texas, and Sonoma County Bar Associations. She represents clients in Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino and Marin counties and throughout the greater Bay Area.

Recent Accomplishments:

Trial Lawyers College--One of 54 attorneys selected nationally to attend the Trial Lawyers College, a respected program shepherded by legendary trial attorney Gerry Spence.

Academic Background:

Earned B.A. from East Carolina University. Played Women's collegiate basketball and ran track.

Received law degree from Oklahoma City University Law School (1982)

Served as Managing Editor of the Law Review (top 10% of her first year class) and President of the Third Year Class.

  • Served as Judicial Assistant for the Oklahoma Court of Appeals, where she drafted over 500 judicial opinions on various civil law topics, such as family law, worker's compensation, and employment issues

  • Senior Associate for San Francisco Insurance Defense Firm

Community Service:

Debra believes in a healthy and vibrant community based on an altruistic and sustainable lifestyle

  • Taught personal injury law at Sonoma State University (Paralegal Program) and Environmental Law at Santa Clara University Law School
  • Writer of "Barrister Bits", a monthly legal column published in The Sonoma County Gazette
  • "Fellow" (Class of 2007) of the Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy
  • Serves as Pro Bono Counsel for two local non-profits:
    • EcoRing, which is charged with developing "green" practices and "ecotourism" in the Russian River area; and
    • The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition,whose mission is to promote safe bicycling for transportation and recreation
